Welcome to the Build Blog — this is where I share what I’m working on, from general maintenance to custom builds and personal restorations. I usually take on one or two flips a year, which can involve anything from head gasket jobs, engine tear-downs, and manual swaps to simple details and oil changes.
I also daily-drive a 1994 E34 525i Touring, so you can expect to see plenty of maintenance logs as projects come up—and being a ’94, they always do.
These projects highlight the hands-on work, problem-solving, and creativity that go into keeping these old BMWs alive. Here, I document the progress, challenges, and results of the builds I’m passionate about.

1986 325es (E30) Suspension Refresh
Welcome to my first blog post. I had the idea to document this project about half way though so I didn’t take as many photos as I would’ve liked to. Naturally I like to take pictures of what I’m working on. So I did end up with a few. This was one of those projects that started out to be a quick one or two day job that turned into multiple weeks for a couple of different reasons. We’ll get more into that shortly. Without further a due, Let’s jump in.
1986 524td (E28) M50 Swap
It was May of 2022. This turned into a fun project, even though it was never supposed to happen. Let me jog my memory and tell you the story the best I can.
The car basically came with a pile of E30 parts I was buying from a neighboring town. It was one of those “since you’re already here, I’ll throw the car in for X amount” kind of deals. That X amount ended up being $300.
At that price, it was a no-brainer.
